As boxers with Parkinson's, and as coaches, we understand Even is Winning! A 70 year old person with PD who is also aging, both degenerative conditions, just wants to stay even!

BwP has to decide what is "even".  As an example, for the TUG, is 8.3 seconds really better than 8.4 seconds?  And is 8.4 seconds really slower than 8.3 seconds?  If you did 2 TUGS back-to-back, you would get different times.  They would not be exactly the same.  If you allow boxers to do the TUG more than once, wouldn't they naturally dial their time in?  Did the boxer really slow down or speed up in less than a minute?  Certainly, their times would be slightly different 6 months apart even if nothing changed?  A sprinter gets a different time with every 100-meter run whether 5 minutes apart of 6 months apart.

How much time difference, slower or faster, is required to be relevant?  To determine that the change is  a significant improvement or decline?  Is encouraging and motivational to a boxer or requires a boxer to recognize a decline?

In the academic community this is known as the Minimum Detectable Change, MDC. PARS does not try to meet the academic or research standards of a MDC, however, a definition of "Even" is required.

BwP does not have enough boxers, assessments or data to establish MDCs at this point.  Will MDCs be different for every test or with normalized scoring on a 100-point basis, can we use a +/- 4 point standard for all tests?  In that scenario, "Even" would be their last score + or - 4 points.  If their last score was 92, the 88 throug 96 for a current score would be "Even".

This is a task for the BwP Advisory Board.  You in?
